New 114,000-Square-Foot H-E-B Supermarket Takes Shape Along Interstate 35 in San Marcos

Motorists traveling along Interstate 35 through Central Texas are witnessing significant progress on one of the region’s newest commercial landmarks. Construction on the massive 114,000-square-foot H-E-B grocery store in San Marcos continues to advance rapidly, transforming the highway corridor with prominent structural updates and extensive exterior branding that signals the project is moving closer to completion.

The sprawling retail site has become an unmissable fixture for daily commuters traveling along the heavily trafficked interstate. Workers have reached key structural milestones in recent weeks, outfitting the building’s exterior facade with towering corporate emblems and establishing the architectural presence that defines the regional supermarket chain’s modern retail footprint.

Recent construction activity in early September revealed substantial visual changes across the building's exterior. Crews have successfully mounted the retailer’s iconic red branding along the roofline, alongside specialized department signs that give passersby a clearer view of the services that will be available inside the expansive commercial complex.

Among the newly positioned exterior signs are designated markers for the location's drive-thru pharmacy, dedicated curbside pickup bays, and the on-site True Texas BBQ restaurant. The steady installation of these prominent branded elements underscores the advanced stage of exterior construction as teams work diligently across the building's shell and surrounding infrastructure.

According to statements from H-E-B, a specific date for the store's official grand opening has not yet been finalized by company leadership. However, on-site construction signage and project timelines continue to target an operational launch in the fall of 2026, keeping the location on track to welcome shoppers in the coming months.

When completed, the facility will represent the third H-E-B location serving the San Marcos community. The expansion reflects ongoing retail investment aimed at accommodating the rapid residential expansion occurring on the city's east side and throughout the surrounding Hays County area.

The strategic placement of the store along Interstate 35 positions the facility to cater not only to local neighborhood residents but also to the steady flow of regional traffic moving between Austin and San Antonio. The bustling interstate corridor serves as a vital economic lifeline connecting the two metropolitan areas, making accessible retail hubs increasingly vital.

Inside the 114,000-square-foot facility, patrons will have access to a comprehensive array of culinary and grocery departments. The company plans to incorporate several of its most popular signature offerings, including a dedicated Sushiya sushi station serving freshly rolled items, a comprehensive artisan in-store bakery, and an expansive section devoted to Meal Simple chef-inspired, ready-to-cook meals.

The location is also set to feature a full-service True Texas BBQ eatery, allowing customers to order slow-smoked meats and classic southern sides directly on the premises. This in-store dining concept has become an increasingly prominent fixture in the grocer's newer, large-format locations across the state.

Beyond traditional grocery retail, the development incorporates an array of extended customer conveniences situated throughout the property perimeter. The site will boast an H-E-B Fresh Bites convenience store, complemented by a multi-pump fuel station designed to offer quick-stop solutions for daily drivers and long-distance travelers.

To further enhance convenience for highway motorists, the commercial site will feature an automated car wash. Modern fulfillment operations will be anchored by an extensive curbside pickup infrastructure and an integrated drive-thru pharmacy lane, catering to shoppers seeking contactless and expedited services.

The grocery development represents just one piece of a broader commercial transformation unfolding along this stretch of Interstate 35. Immediately adjacent to the supermarket parcel, preliminary groundwork is actively proceeding for McCarty Commons, a major master-planned commercial shopping destination.

According to state regulatory filings, McCarty Commons will welcome a 135,918-square-foot Home Depot as its primary retail anchor. Construction on the massive home improvement center is scheduled to commence in the fall of 2026, establishing a major complementary commercial hub right beside the new grocery store.

The simultaneous development of both the H-E-B store and McCarty Commons will dramatically alter the commercial landscape on the eastern corridor of San Marcos. The dual projects are set to establish a dense retail destination capable of supporting long-term commercial growth along the vibrant central Texas transit artery.

As fall 2026 approaches, construction teams remain focused on completing the remaining exterior details and finishing interior spaces. With primary signage fully erected and major structural milestones achieved, the new supermarket stands ready to expand grocery access for thousands of Central Texas residents and commuters alike.
