A 32-year-old South Florida woman has been formally charged with felony grand theft after an evening encounter at a venue in Hallandale Beach allegedly culminated in the theft of an appraised $98,400 luxury timepiece. According to court filings, the victim reported feeling drugged and incapacitated shortly before discovering that his high-end Rolex watch had vanished from his residence.
The suspect, identified in police records as Lynda Mae Crouse of Miami, was taken into custody following the execution of an outstanding arrest warrant. Authorities have charged Crouse with second-degree grand theft, a statutory offense that applies to the unlawful taking of property with an estimated market value exceeding $20,000 but remaining below the $100,000 threshold.
The case traces back to the early morning hours of April 12, when the complainant initially crossed paths with Crouse at the Carousel Club, an entertainment venue located within Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach. According to a probable cause affidavit compiled by detectives from the Hallandale Beach Police Department, the pair engaged in conversation and exchanged social media contact details on Instagram before parting ways for the evening.
However, their interaction resumed roughly sixty minutes later when the man arranged for a rideshare vehicle through Uber to transport Crouse directly from her residence to his home. Upon her arrival, the two spent time socializing in the residence while consuming alcoholic beverages, according to investigative records reviewed by law enforcement.
The situation took a drastic turn when the host stepped away into his bedroom to change into different attire. While separated from his guest, the man reported experiencing an abrupt, overwhelming sensation of physical fatigue, describing himself as feeling distinctly "funny" and heavily impaired without a clear explanation based solely on his standard alcohol consumption.
During those moments of disorientation, the man reportedly heard a sharp clapping sound originating from the living room area. When he walked back into the common living space, he observed a noticeable shift in Crouse’s demeanor. She promptly announced her intention to leave the property, and the victim, struggling against heavy drowsiness, fell fast asleep almost immediately after her exit.
Upon waking several hours later, the victim continued to feel physical aftereffects and suspected that his drink had been spiked with an incapacitating substance. His suspicions deepened upon inspecting his living room, where he discovered that the container housing his luxury watch was open and completely empty.
Investigators identified the missing item as a gold 40-millimeter Rolex Presidential watch, distinguished by custom baguette diamond hour markers and an encrusted diamond bezel. To substantiate the substantial loss, the complainant provided law enforcement with a signed certified appraisal assessing the market value of the bespoke timepiece at $98,400.
The victim told investigators that the sharp sound he had heard while in his bedroom earlier that morning was likely the snapping lid of the Rolex display box closing shut. Although the complainant did not immediately seek medical evaluation or undergo clinical toxicology screening in connection with the Hallandale Beach incident, he provided a sworn recorded statement recounting persistent, lingering physical symptoms consistent with an unknown chemical substance.
Following an investigation into the reported theft, detectives presented the man with a standardized six-person photographic lineup. The victim definitively identified Crouse from the photo array as the woman who had visited his apartment on the night the luxury watch disappeared.
Law enforcement records indicate that the incident in Hallandale Beach may not be an isolated event. Investigators noted that Crouse is currently linked to at least four other active investigations across Miami-Dade County featuring a virtually identical modus operandi. In those cases, suspects allegedly targeted male patrons wearing high-end wristwatches in bars and nightclubs before accompanying them to private homes or hotel rooms where the valuables vanished.
The affidavit explicitly highlighted another open investigation in Miami where a victim who experienced comparable physical symptoms submitted to medical toxicology screening. That clinical analysis confirmed the presence of zolpidem, a potent sedative and prescription sleep medication commonly marketed under the brand name Ambien, indicating a recurring pattern of drug-facilitated property theft.
Crouse was apprehended on Friday, September 11, after an officer with the Seminole Police Department encountered her during an unrelated trespassing investigation in Hollywood, Florida. A standard background query revealed the active Broward County warrant, leading to her arrest and transfer to the Broward County Sheriff's Office main jail facility.
During a court hearing on September 14, a Broward County magistrate reviewed the charging documents, found sufficient probable cause to sustain the grand theft allegation, and set Crouse’s bond at $2,500. As a mandatory condition of her pretrial release, the court ordered her to maintain strict no-contact protocols regarding the victim.
The case remains actively open in the Broward County court system as prosecutors proceed with formal proceedings. Representatives for the Hallandale Beach Police Department were contacted for additional comment regarding the ongoing criminal proceedings and the broader regional investigation.
