University of Houston Suspends Instructor Following Livestreamed Citizen Sting on Campus

The University of Houston has placed an instructor and graduate student on administrative suspension after an independent online child predator group confronted him directly inside an academic building on campus. The public confrontation, which was broadcast live to an internet audience, captured the educator purportedly making admissions regarding the procurement of illicit materials and illicit communications with underage individuals.

University officials formally confirmed the disciplinary suspension on Thursday afternoon. The administrative action followed direct inquiries from broadcast news media concerning footage hosted on the streaming service Kick. In that broadcast, the educator engaged in an extensive recorded dialogue with Alex Rosen, the founder of the citizen-led investigative group known as Poaching Predators.

The identity of the suspended faculty member is currently being withheld from public reporting in accordance with journalistic standards, as formal criminal charges have not yet been filed by prosecuting authorities. While administrative consequences have taken effect internally at the academic institution, the legal process surrounding the alleged conduct remains in its preliminary stages.

Campus law enforcement personnel initially handled the immediate campus encounter before transferring the broader criminal investigation to the Houston Police Department. Municipal investigators are now tasked with reviewing the digital evidence and recorded statements to determine whether the instructor committed online solicitation of a minor under state law. Representatives for the Houston Police Department have not yet provided formal comment regarding the ongoing inquiry.

According to statements provided by Rosen, the undercover initiative targeting the university instructor began several months earlier, in March. Rosen reported that members of his organization initiated digital messaging with the educator while explicitly stating that they were operating under the persona of a 13-year-old minor.

During these early exchanges, Rosen asserted that the instructor exhibited no hesitation or objection after being informed of the purported minor's age. The digital communications were subsequently migrated from the initial contact platform to the messaging service Discord, where the educator allegedly engaged in explicit conversations and solicited multiple sexual acts.

The on-campus confrontation materialized after the instructor failed to appear at a previously scheduled in-person meeting arranged by the group. Following the missed appointment, Rosen and his team opted to locate the faculty member directly at his workplace on the University of Houston campus to confront him regarding the electronic communications.

Rosen entered an instructional space on Thursday morning while the educator was present, taking a position at the rear of the lecture room to observe. The activist waited until the instructional period concluded and the instructor had finished speaking to students before approaching him to initiate the confrontation.

Upon being approached, the educator agreed to exit the instructional environment and speak with the group outside the classroom. The ensuing interaction lasted for more than an hour on university property, throughout which the entire encounter was continuously livestreamed across digital platforms to an online audience.

During the prolonged recorded exchange, Rosen monitored the statements being made by the faculty member to evaluate whether they sufficiently substantiated the digital chat logs collected over the preceding months. Once the group determined that the educator had made sufficient on-camera admissions to authenticate the undercover correspondence, Rosen signaled an associate to summon emergency law enforcement to the scene.

Officers from the University of Houston Police Department arrived and initially took the educator into custody for formal questioning regarding the allegations. However, sources familiar with the matter indicated that the faculty member exercised his legal right to decline speaking with investigating detectives without legal counsel, resulting in his subsequent release from custody pending further criminal review.

Simultaneously, campus law enforcement officers took formal administrative and legal actions against Rosen and his organization for conducting the unauthorized sting operation on school property. The University of Houston Police Department issued a formal criminal trespass warning against Rosen, legally barring him from returning to university grounds, and circulated an internal "Be On the Lookout" (BOLO) notice regarding his presence.

Rosen reportedly learned about the active BOLO alert and trespass enforcement during a subsequent media interview. The activist expressed surprise at the university's law enforcement response against his group, noting the practical complications the ban creates for conducting any future citizen-led operations on the university's properties.

University of Houston administrative representatives have declined to provide specific explanations regarding the rationale behind issuing the BOLO bulletin against the activist group. Additionally, the suspended instructor did not respond to direct communications seeking comment regarding the allegations, the livestreamed confrontation, or the ongoing municipal police investigation.
