Pabst Blue Ribbon Suffers Major Beer Heist in California

A significant theft has occurred at a California distribution center, where approximately 40,000 pounds of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer were stolen, valued at roughly $70,000. The Montclair Police Department is currently investigating the incident, which took place at an Anheuser-Busch distribution center in Montclair. The theft is believed to be part of a larger operation involving fraudulent shipping documents.

The first shipment, worth about $45,000, was scheduled for delivery to Tucson, Arizona, but never reached its destination. Approximately an hour later, a subcontracting company, using fraudulent documentation, arranged the pickup of approximately $25,000 worth of Anheuser-Busch and Pabst Blue Ribbon products. Both incidents are under investigation to determine if they are connected.

The Montclair Police Department has identified discrepancies in the information provided about the trucking company, driver, and vehicles involved in the thefts. No suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made at this time.

Pabst Blue Ribbon has taken a proactive approach in addressing the theft, using social media to bring attention to the issue. The company has offered a reward for information that could lead to the recovery of the stolen beer and has set a deadline for the return of the cargo. In a series of Instagram posts, Pabst emphasized the importance of the matter, writing, "Pabst is officially starting the clock now - you have exactly 18 days and 44 minutes to return our truck, no questions asked."

The company's commitment to recovering the stolen beer is evident in their social media messages, which also serve as a warning to the thieves. "To the thief: we don't fault you for wanting to brag to your friends how much PBR you have, we just wish you obtained it the honorable way," Pabst stated.

Despite the theft, Pabst has not reported any stolen trucks, only the cargo. The company also reminded the thieves of the importance of keeping beer cold, a nod to the logistics involved in transporting beer. "We hope that whoever managed to steal our truck also knows the importance of keeping beer cold," Pabst wrote.

This incident marks the second high-profile beverage cargo theft in the Bay Area in recent years. In November 2024, two freight trucks carrying about $1 million worth of Santo Spirits tequila, co-owned by celebrity chefs Guy Fieri and Sammy Hagar, were stolen in Laredo, Texas. The shipments were destined for California and Pennsylvania, and the tequila was reported to have been "double-brokered" to other carriers.

The theft of the Pabst Blue Ribbon beer and the Santo Spirits tequila highlight the vulnerabilities in the beverage distribution system. While the value of the stolen goods is significant, the impact on consumer confidence and the logistics industry as a whole can be far-reaching.

The Montclair Police Department is actively working to solve the theft and bring the culprits to justice. As the investigation continues, Pabst Blue Ribbon remains vigilant, using social media to engage with the public and encourage any information that could lead to the recovery of the stolen beer.

The theft of 40,000 pounds of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer from a California distribution center is a stark reminder of the risks involved in the beverage distribution industry. As the investigation unfolds, the hope is that the stolen cargo will be recovered and the culprits brought to justice.
