Federal Agents Seize Over 110 Pounds of Narcotics, Weapons, and Baby Alligator in Downtown Los Angeles Apartment Raid

Federal law enforcement authorities have executed a major raid on a luxury residential apartment in downtown Los Angeles, uncovering a substantial narcotics distribution operation that yielded more than 110 pounds of illicit substances, high-powered weaponry, and an unexpected live baby alligator. The multi-agency operation targeted what investigators characterized as an active and heavily equipped urban stash house situated within a high-end residential building.

The raid culminated in the arrest of two residents, identified by federal prosecutors as 27-year-old Marvin Angelito and 26-year-old Susan Gonzalez. Both individuals were taken into custody on site during the execution of the federal search warrant on Thursday, September 10, following an intensive investigation into suspected illicit narcotics trafficking conducted from within the downtown living space.

According to official statements released by the United States Department of Justice, the residential unit had been identified by law enforcement as a known drug trafficking location. Federal investigators developed sufficient evidence to secure a search warrant for the luxury apartment, allowing specialized teams of federal agents to enter and conduct a comprehensive search of the premises.

Upon entering and securing the residence, agents discovered a massive stockpile of illegal narcotics weighing well over 110 pounds in aggregate. The vast majority of the seized contraband consisted of fentanyl, a synthetic opioid that remains a primary focus of federal drug enforcement efforts due to its extreme potency and high lethality.

Official tallies provided by the Department of Justice revealed that agents confiscated approximately 42.6 kilograms—equating to roughly 93.9 pounds, or more than 92 pounds—of fentanyl. The synthetic narcotic was present inside the luxury residence in both pill and powder forms, indicating widespread processing, handling, and packaging capabilities on site.

In addition to the extensive quantity of fentanyl, the search yielded several other categories of controlled substances. Federal agents seized approximately 7.2 kilograms, or about 15.9 pounds, of cocaine, as well as an estimated one kilogram, or 2.2 pounds, of heroin, demonstrating that the location was being utilized to store and distribute multiple types of illegal street narcotics.

Beyond the finished narcotics, investigators uncovered extensive manufacturing and laboratory equipment positioned throughout the apartment. Law enforcement personnel documented and seized items including chemical beakers, specialized mixers, stirrers, torches, and a heavy-duty hydraulic press, all of which are commonly utilized in illicit operations to re-press and package bulk powders into commercial quantities for street-level distribution.

Federal authorities also recovered dangerous weapons and tactical gear during their search of the premises. Among the seized firearms was an AR-15-style semi-automatic rifle, alongside a distinctive gold-plated Desert Eagle .50-caliber handgun. Agents also confiscated a cache of live ammunition compatible with the firearms kept within the downtown residence.

In addition to the lethal firearms, agents discovered a functioning police radio inside the apartment. Such communication equipment is frequently maintained by illicit distribution networks in an attempt to monitor emergency broadcast frequencies and track local law enforcement activity in the vicinity of their operational bases.

One of the most unusual discoveries during the search was the presence of an exotic live reptile kept inside the living quarters. Federal agents located a small baby alligator, which photographic evidence from the scene showed was being housed in a glass aquarium set up within the apartment.

Because the possession of such wildlife involves specialized federal regulations and animal welfare protocols, agents from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service were summoned to the scene to take charge of the animal. The wildlife agency officially seized the juvenile alligator and safely transported it away from the apartment complex.

Following their arrests on Thursday, September 10, Angelito and Gonzalez were held in federal custody over the weekend before making their initial appearances in federal court in Los Angeles on Monday, September 14. During the proceeding, both defendants stood before a federal magistrate judge to be formally informed of the criminal complaint pending against them.

Each defendant has been charged with possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute. As of their initial appearance in federal court, neither Angelito nor Gonzalez had entered a formal plea to the charges, with their formal arraignment hearings scheduled to take place in October.

During Monday’s court hearing, the presiding magistrate judge issued contrasting custody rulings for the two co-defendants. The judge ordered Angelito to remain detained in federal custody without bail pending future legal proceedings, while Gonzalez was granted pre-trial release after posting a $15,000 bond.

The federal narcotics charges lodged against both defendants carry severe statutory penalties under federal law. If Angelito and Gonzalez are ultimately convicted as charged on the distribution offense, each faces a potential maximum sentence of life in federal prison.

The successful raid and resulting criminal complaint stem from a joint operation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, with the prosecution being handled by the United States Department of Justice.
